Top 10 The Most Popular Games of 2022
It could be said that 2022 was a slower year in video games. The COVID pandemic continues to delay the release dates of several titles. Studio workers are more mindful and have healthier working conditions. This is a good thing. There will always be new games and many of them are very good. We're now past the 2022 halfway point, so let's look back at 2022's best video games. We think so.
This article will give you a list of all the Game employees' personal favorite games for 2022. Did we miss your favourite?
Pokemon Legends: Arceus
This game deserves a sequel, either in spirit or as a full-fledged spinoff. This game deserves it for its innovative design and the way it made the entire Pokemon universe more interesting and larger than ever. Although some worlds are a bit boring (the last snow-themed one is a good example), this game is eye-opening and beautiful, and is a great representation of the charm that makes Pokemon so special. Please, more of this one. - Leah J. Williams
Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is a video game that can make you forget about the real world. It involves you in a story of post-apocalyptic wastelands, the birth of a new land and how it feels to be part of the adventure. Taking breaks between story beats feels almost like you are leaving your friends behind. The game is a technical marvel: snow-capped peaks shimmer with frost, skin glitters, oceans ripple; but it also has amazing character work. Aloy, Varl, and Erend feel like real people.
Although the story occasionally goes off the rails, the climax is especially shocking and heavily leans into sci-fi themes, the dialogue and plot weave an intriguing tale of high fantasy at its end. Aloy is a charming, thoughtful protagonist who guides the story to its beautiful, satisfying conclusion. This is the game for you, whether you are looking for a movie-worthy epic to devour or a game that lets you explore palm oases, changing sunsets, and shady trees. It's a stunning world and worth exploring for yourself. - Leah J. Williams
Knotwords
Forget Wordle. Forget it! The word-game hipster says it's not the same after the New York Times bought it. Instead, you should focus your attention on Knotwords, Zach Gage and Jack Schlesinger who have created incredibly well-designed mobile games such as Spelltower and Good Sudoku.
You can think of Knotwords as a crossword puzzle, but it is cut into smaller segments with a different set of letters. It's a Sudoku puzzle with letters.
It's not an easy anagram solution, which makes it even more satisfying. Often you will have to use multiple letters to create the word. It's a satisfying game to play, with the difficulty gradually increasing over the course of the week. You will feel like a genius when you solve the Sunday puzzle.
The game's generous approach towards daily streaks deserves praise. You don't have to miss a day of play - just start another streak for 7 days and you can retrieve your streak and stack the new streak on top. This friendly, welcoming approach makes Knotwords even more enjoyable to return to. Edmond Tran
Neon White
Neon White is a fast-paced game that will get your heart racing in under a minute. This game is a completely different creation from the creators of Donut County. This is a fast-paced speedrunning game where you must race through levels, take down demons and do wild acrobatic feats as quickly as possible. It's thrilling and delicious.
Online leaderboards are also available in the game. This makes Neon White a very social and fun game. Literal milliseconds are important, which is why you should go back and replay stages as you attempt to optimize your route. It's only a few milliseconds. Easy. Neon White is one those games that can distort your sense of time, priorities and priorities.
Neon White has a strong, early 2000s anime aesthetic, a strong drum n' beat soundtrack, and a social element with characters that really grow on you. It is definitely one the best games of 2022. Edmond Tran
Tina Tina’s Wonderlands
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands doesn't just feature a cartoonish narrative adventure based on the Dungeons & Dragons worlds. It's also a exploration of imagination and creativity in dire circumstances. The action is helmed and directed by Tiny Tina who, as a young girl, uses fantasy to escape reality. She lives in the post-apocalypse, and must deal with the loss of her close friends. Even if you ignore this emotionally charged metanarrative you will still find an enjoyable game full of humor, adventure, and wonder. This game is full of confidence and bright, shining hope. It's one of the most charming games of 2022.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands also features a variety of worlds, from the Tangledrift high beanstalks to the Wargtooth Shallows shores. You'll find yourself casually entertained between each realm by the bantering of Andy Samberg, Wanda Sykes, and Ashly Burch, Tiny Tina. You'll find something wonderful to learn on this amazing journey, whether you're fighting land sharks or exploring the intricate details of Tina's mind. The whole experience is made even more enjoyable when you can bring a few friends along. - Leah J. Williams
Kirby, and the Forgotten Land
It is a mystery as to why there has never been a 3D Kirby title before Kirby and The Forgotten Land. This mystery is amplified by this game's exceptional design. It's easy for HAL Laboratory to have mastered 3D platforming before the release of the game, as Kirby, the title, travels through post-apocalyptic landscapes, solving puzzles and swallowing enemies.
Although this is not true, the game is polished and stunning. This is due to Kirby's noble mission of saving Waddle Dees and fighting off enemies. It's a collect-athon that pays homage to classic platformers. However, its charm is enough to make up for any lack of innovation. Each trip through the game's world offers new surprises, including haunted amusement parks and time-based challenges.
You'll find both adorable dream lands as well as terrifying hellscapes all in one delightful adventure. Although it's not always easy, the last stages of Kirby and The Forgotten Land are a bit grating and feature some truly terrifying bosses. However, Kirby and The Forgotten Land is a charming trip and one the best games of 2022. This game is a charming piece of Kirby pie, with just a little bit of eldritch terror waiting in the wings. - Leah J. Williams
Vampire Survivors
Vampire Survivors doesn't really look like much from the first glance. It has the Dracula-esque key art and sprites that seem straight out of 2D Castlevania games. This gives it the feel of someone trying their first game development experiment. It will take 15 minutes of your time and you'll find it digging its teeth into your body. You'll struggle to stop the game's dangerously addictive gameplay loop from ruining your whole day.
Vampire Survivors combines elements of an idle game (auto attack and selective progression system), but gives you just a little bit more agency (the ability move). This keeps your eyes on the screen at all time. You must maintain the right spacing to give your weapons time to cool down and fire to keep your enemies away.
Although it doesn't sound that much, the power curve you experience as you unlock different weapons and gain more experience is fascinating. You'll be a walking wrecker within a few minutes. Fireballs tunnel through the crowds and whips crackle, books fly and books fly. It's possible to make a few errors and it could all fall down quickly. The incredible feeling of balancing on the knife edge will be something you want to keep going back for.
As the Vampire Survivors approach to survival games has improved, so have many others. This is the original and best and may be the Castlevania spinoff that we never needed. Edmond Tran
Fire Emblem Warriors - Three Hopes
Fire Emblem Warriors 3: Three Hopes offers dynamic gameplay, high-speed combat, and an engaging storyline. Omega Force has given new life to a beloved Fire Emblem instalment and reimagined it. The game's familiar cast of characters has been reimagined and is now even better.
Fodlan's alternate reality is enough to draw you in, but it might not be enough for you to fight alongside your friends. The team has taken the proven Musou playstyle and elevated it to a new level. Every combat encounter feels like a historical event with every enemy entering the fray.
The hack-and-slash adventure is a great choice for both button-mashers and those who enjoy a more strategic approach to battle. It offers hours of fun gameplay that surprises and intrigues at every turn.
Fire Emblem Warriors 3: Three Hopes offers something for everyone, even those who are not averse to turn-based combat. This feat is one I had never imagined possible. Look no further for a masterclass on how to take a story and world that is well-established and bring something new and exciting to the table. Emily Spindler
OlliOlli World
OlliOlli World offers a slice of chilled vibes wrapped in pastel artwork and a plot that includes skateboarding, semi-omnipotent gods and lots of buzzing bees. Although the premise of the game is somewhat zany, you play as a skateboarder who wants to be the next Skate God. You do this by performing high-speed ollies. Other tricks are also possible. This loose story is paired with sharp gameplay, courses that lead you into colorful and surreal worlds, as well as a cast of chill-out characters and you have one helluva package.
It's a joy to master every aspect of this adventure and land the best landings. Although you will stumble and fall along the way, once you have learned what OlliOlli World has for you, there's a deep inner satisfaction. Although the game is complex, it's easy to get lost. However, there are endless replayability options and no real consequences for failing. This game will keep you engaged and motivated every time. OlliOlliWorld is pure and healthy, and you won't find a better game that will give you the same thrill. - Leah J. Williams
Poinpy
Poinpy is one of the best 2022 games so far. Poinpy was created by the man who invented Downwell. This game saw you tumble in a pit and shoot guns from your feet. You must do your best to not touch the ground. This game requires you to gather fruit and give it to your giant cat.
It might be better called "Upwell", since Poinpy has the same compulsive and excellent action-platforming principles. This involves trying to navigate through the sage, bouncing off walls and enemies to avoid the ground. This rewards you with big score multipliers.
It has a satisfying touchscreen control scheme that allows you to pull-back and launch. Poiny's soft nature makes it fun to use. There are also a variety of stage mechanics that allow you to overcome gravity to maintain your upward momentum. Because of the speed at which you can stop, it feels exhilarating to get a great run.
Its sudden release and announcement were delightful surprises. Poinpy is definitely one of the top mobile phone games in 2022. It's even more remarkable that it's exclusive to Netflix subscribers, making it the first true winner of the new mobile game strategy. What is the best mobile game so far this year? Yes, I would say. Elden Ring
The incredible Elden Ring is a great place to start. FromSoftware has been creating great games such as Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro for a long time and has a loyal following. Even the most passionate Souls fans couldn't have predicted how popular and well-received Elden Ring in 2022. It's a good thing, too.
The studio's insistence on ideas about challenge, player-driven discovery and fun made it a more accessible and enjoyable game. The major decision to create the game around an open-world allows for nonlinear progression, and gives you control over how you progress through the game's beats. This creates incredibly dramatic moments that seem to be around every corner.
It's easy to see why Elden Ring has received so much attention from its community. They have a lot to offer, including the co-op functionality and many other ways to play it.
We hope that the popularity of it inspires others to do so, as it is clear that millions have already come to appreciate FromSoftware's unique school of game design. It's clear that Elden Ring is the most popular game of 2022. - Edmond Tran
